Why Join CEG?

The Calgary Exchange Group is the networking group that enables its members to develop robust professional relationships so they can reach their full potential. CEG is devoted to exchanging information, sharing experiences, and exploring trends through a collaborative forum that enables member networking.

  1. Data Sharing: We have partnered with Mercer to leverage their software and reporting capabilities. CEG members will receive a custom cut of the following Mercer reports: the Canada Compensation Planning Surveys (three times per year), their Policy Report, and their Benefits Report.
  2. Networking and Professional Development Opportunities: We like to balance learning opportunities as well as professional networking opportunities to enable members to broaden their professional networks and provide an environment of information sharing and collaboration.

3. Cutting Edge Topics: Speakers are always presenting the most hot button topics and providing real resources for our professional members to utilize what they learn in their everyday work lives.

4. Maintain Compliance to the Competition Act, RSC 1985, c 34 (the “Competition Act”): Recent amendments to the Competition Act took effect on June 23, 2023 and make it a criminal offence for non-affiliated employers to enter into wage-fixing or no poaching agreements. CEG has taken steps to maintain compliance and have secured legal recommendations to ensure our members are in compliance concerning “wage fixing” in regards to the information sharing activities engaged in by CEG members by focusing on aggregated and/or anonymized data, not specific employment terms and ensuring CEG Members know that all data received is in aid of individual companies decisions and are not required to act on the data they receive.

What are Members Saying?

“I always enjoyed the networking and the leadership team was always able to present topics that were current and of interest to everyone an the lunches. It’s a great platform for small to medium sized companies with the ability to survey your peers.” – Julie MacDonald, Sr. Compensation Advisor, CNRL

What Makes a Good Member?

  1. Active in exploration, production, midstream and/or renewable energy.
  2. Minimum of 30 unique job matches in the Mercer Total Compensation survey for the Energy Sector (MTCS).
  3. Annual participation in Mercer’s MTCS survey.
  4. Formal HR Department or dedicated resource.
  • If your Company does not meet all aspects of this criteria, please contact our Membership Director to engage in a discussion. We evaluate all applications and determine membership fit on a case by case basis.
  •  Member companies must have a formal Human Resources (HR) department or be able to show that a large percentage of a member’s time is dedicated to HR responsibilities. One of the key benefits of belonging to the CEG is information sharing; therefore it is critical that all members be working primarily in the HR profession within their organization in order to provide value in this area.
  •  CEG memberships are company memberships, not individual; therefore individuals cannot transfer a membership to a new company should they change positions. In situations of acquisitions and mergers, the CEG Leadership Team will be responsible for assessing whether a membership is transferable or not.
  •  The CEG is a group of small to mid-sized energy companies.  As companies continue to grow and merge, some companies may exceed the mid-sized requirement. However, companies with current active membership status will be ‘grandfathered’, retaining their status regardless of any revisions or refinements to the membership criteria, until such a time that they voluntarily leave the group or have their membership cancelled (i.e. Failure to participate in mandatory surveys).
  • Member companies and their employees must agree to treat all data received through CEG in strict confidence and participate in all required surveys.
  • To ensure compliance with privacy legislation, information shared by member companies will not include ‘personal information’ as defined by the law.
  • Member companies are strongly encouraged to have a representative attend and participate in the six (6) member meetings per year. Representatives should be knowledgeable of their company employee policies and be authorized to speak on behalf of the company. Each member company may have a maximum of three representatives, including a primary representative and up to two alternate representatives.

Membership Fees

Member companies are subject to annual fees of $350.00 per member to cover the costs of CEG operations. Memberships are payable before any data is provided.

Membership fees and guest fees are reviewed annually by the CEG Leadership Committee and are subject to change. Fee changes will be announced to members at member meetings.  Membership fees are intended to cover the cost of all member meetings throughout the year that align with hot topics, all networking events, all Leadership Committee meetings, audio visual costs for the member meeting, the CEG website, and any other reasonable costs determined by the CEG Leadership Committee.
